May 16th-20th Week in Preview

We survived the CRT!! Now it is time to get ready for our finals. Finals Days are May 27th, 31st, and June 1st. Please make sure you don't miss class those days because there won't be time after to make up the final. Also now is the time to turn in any missing work and make-up any tests and do everything possible to get your grade as high as you can so when we get the CRT scores back it won't ruin your grade.

Here's how this week will run:

Geometry:

Monday/Tuesday May 16th/17th

We will start our tessellation projects which will be due the day of the final (that is May 27th for B Classes and June 1st for A Classes). The project consists of two tessellation pictures. The first will be made from regular polygons and the second will be made from a sliding tessellation piece. One needs to be from construction paper pieces glued together and the other needs to be made from traced pieces colored in. The more creative the better!
HOMEWORK: Nothing will be due next class

Wednesday/Thursday May 18th/19th

We will spend half the class working on a Fractions Review worksheet (all work in these last weeks will help us be better prepared for Algebra II next year) that will be due at the end of class. When finished you may work on your tessellations project.
HOMEWORK: Any missing work

Friday/Monday May 20th/23rd

Our Algebra II prep of today will be a review of the Distributive Property. Again the worksheet will be due at the end of class and when finished you may work on your tessellation pictures.
HOMEWORK: Any missing work

Algebra II:

Monday/Tuesday May 16th/17th

We will be spending the last couple weeks working on common Algebra skills that need to be second nature in preparation for College Prep or Pre-Calculus. They are also good skills for the ACT. This day we will review and perfect our skills with simplifying Algebraic Expressions. All worksheets from here on out will be due at the end of class so we will have no homework.
HOMEWORK: Any missing work

Wednesday/Thursday May 18th/19th

We will spend the class working on Solving Equations. Again the worksheet will be due at the end of class.
HOMEWORK: Any missing work

Friday/Monday May 20th/23rd

We will spend the class working on Fraction Operations.

April 4th-8th Week in Preview

One week before Spring Break!!! I hope you have fun plans for your week off. Let's get all your missing work in before the break so you don't have your parents on your case all week to get your work done. :) Trust me, it will make the break nicer for all of us! Also we have our unit tests coming up the week after Spring Break which means all work in that unit is due anyway.

Here's what this week looks like...

Feb 28th-March 7th Week in Preview

I cannot believe we are already moving right into March. Third quarter is going to be over before we know it. (The quarter ends on the 25th of March.) As always make sure you are keeping up with everything and coming in for help on anything you are not understanding.

This new week is going to be a bit strange because of the ACT test being offered on Tuesday. I will see a lot of my B classes and very little of my A classes. But we can't get behind on A days so my A classes are going to have to work really hard to keep up with everything. Here's the overview:

Geometry:

Monday (B classes) February 28th

We will be working more with slope and graphing practice to solidify the concepts we have thus far learned in coordinate geometry. Make sure you understand how to find the slope in two ways and how to graph a line as well as write the equation of a line.

This is the week before a test in both Geometry and Algebra II so please use your time wisely to get in any missing work and come get help on anything you are still not fully understanding. Here are the assignments for this week...

Geometry:

Tuesday/Wednesday Feb. 1st/2nd

We are reviewing area of circles to make sure we know the difference between area and circumference as well as knowing how to use both formulas. You need to know how to find the area if given radius, diameter, OR circumference.
HOMEWORK: Area of circles worksheet; Pg613 #14-20 (21,22 Bonus)

Thursday/Friday Feb 3rd/4th

We will find the area of sectors of a circle as well as segments of a circle using our proportions (meaning pieces of the circle like pie pieces).
HOMEWORK: Area Sector wkst/Circles Test Review Packet

Algebra II:

Tuesday/Wednesday Feb 1st/2nd

We are finishing chapter 8 with graphing logarithms. We will look at the graph as an inverse to the exponential function. We will also look at the different transformations.
HOMEWORK: Graphing Logs worksheet

Thursday/Friday Feb 3rd/4th

We will spend the period reviewing chapter 8 and preparing for the chapter 8 test which will be next class.

Jan 24th-28th Week in Preview

It's the last full week of January. We are one week into 3rd quarter. If you are already falling behind, have been absent, or just feel lost; PLEASE come get some help. It's better to catch up now before the work gets harder.

Here's how this new week will go...

Geometry:

Monday/Tuesday Jan 24th/25th

We added a few chord properties to our notes then spent the period working on a circles review packet using all the properties we have learned so far in our circles unit. WE WILL BE HAVING A MINI-TEST ON CIRCLES SO FAR NEXT CLASS SO PLEASE BE PREPARED!!
HOMEWORK: Finish the Arcs, Chords, Angles Packet

Wednesday/Thursday Jan 26th/27th

We will first take the Mini-Test on Circles so far. Then we will take a bit of a break from circles to review how to solve proportions and percent problems (these skills will be used later in our circles unit).
HOMEWORK: Proportions wkst

Friday/Monday Jan 28th/31st

We will talk about the circumference of a circle and how to find the length of an arc (don't get arc length confused with arc measure...this can get tricky).
HOMEWORK: Pg 527 #44, 45, 53, 54; Pg 533 #40-43; Pg 582 #27-28

Algebra II:

Monday/Tuesday Jan 24th/25th

We are moving right along in chapter 8 and will spend this day on section 8-3 in the textbook. The main idea of this chapter is that a logarithmic function is the inverse of an exponential function. We will spend the period learning how to change functions from logarithmic form to exponential form and vice versa. We will also learn how to evaluate a logarithm.
HOMEWORK: Pg 450 #6-16, 18, 20-25, 43, 47, 53-61, 92, 102-105, 109, 111

Wednesday/Thursday Jan 26th/27th

We will learn the properties of logarithms and how to use them (8-4). We will also learn how to use the change of base formula from 8-5 and discover why that is important.
HOMEWORK: 8-4 worksheet

Friday/Monday Jan 28th/31st

We will learn how to solve exponential equation and logarithmic equations. We will also simplify natural logarithmic expressions and solve natural logarithmic equations. (8-5 and 8-6)
HOMEWORK: Pg 464 #1-11 (odd), 33-47 (odd), 84, 91; Pg 472 #1-11 (odd), 14-28 (even)

TEST ON CHAPTER 8 WILL BE FEBRUARY 7th AND 8th. START REVIEWING AND STUDYING NOW!

Let's have another great week!

I don't know you need help unless you ask!

Here's how the first week of 3rd quarter looks...

HOMEWORK: Pg 555 #3, 7-17

Thursday/Friday Jan 20th/21st

We will review chords and arcs, then learn what a secant is as well as central and inscribed angles. We will then learn the properties of each and how to use them.

Algebra II:

Tuesday/Wednesday Jan. 18th/19th

We are starting chapter 8 in the book all about exponential functions. Today we learned how to graph exponential functions and how to recognize an increase vs. a decrease.
HOMEWORK: Pg 434 #2, 5, 7, 10, 14, 16-22, 26, 29, 32-38(evens), 45a, 60, 61, 66-70(evens) Please state the domain, range, and asymptotes on each graph.

Dear Algebra II Students...

I really did try to post the answer key to the Term 2 Final Review. I scanned it and have it on a word document but it won't transfer over to the blog.

If you are REALLY interested in having a copy, please email me at krobinson@alpine.k12.ut.us and I will email you the answer key with all the work shown.

Someday, I will figure out how to be more technically smart and I will be able to post the keys here.
